Workshop Overview
CCUS technologies have witnessed rapid growth in recent years, offering promising solutions for reducing carbon emissions and achieving climate goals. The East Asian region, in particular, presents unique challenges and opportunities in the development and deployment of CCUS solutions. This workshop recognizes the importance of tailored approaches that cater to the specific needs and contexts of East Asian countries, aiming to foster a collaborative environment that drives innovation and progress in CCUS.
Workshop Objectives
This workshop aims to provide a unique platform to accelerate the development, implementation, and practice of CCUS technologies for the East Asian region. This workshop will facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration among academia and industry experts across various disciplines like seismology, rock physics, geomechanics, reservoir engineering, and chemical engineering in the context of CCUS. By engaging experts in discussions with stakeholders and local regulators, the goal is to enhance understanding and adoption of CCUS technologies tailored to the region. Participants will stay updated on the latest technical developments, network with key stakeholders, and apply their expertise to address pressing issues related to CCUS in East Asia.

One aspect of this workshop concentrates on developing advanced methods and tools to optimize efficiency and effectiveness in CCUS and enhancing its processes tailored to the requirements in East Asia. It can include CO2 storage and utilization geological modeling, time-lapse monitoring, site and reservoir characterization, etc.
Practical Application of CCUS
This workshop provides participants with experimental and field experiences along with practical insights for implementing CCUS strategies. Through interactive sessions and case studies, attendees will gain a better understanding of how to apply CCUS methodologies in a way that is feasible and impactful in East Asia. By fostering collaboration among experts spanning various disciplines, stakeholders, and local regulators, this workshop aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and enhance cross-disciplinary partnerships. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, participants can combine their expertise to drive innovation and optimize CCUS strategies specifically tailored to meet the needs of the East Asian region.
Safety hazards and risk assessment
A significant focus of the workshop will be on identifying and addressing safety hazards associated with CCUS projects. Detailed risk assessments and mitigation strategies will be discussed to ensure the safe implementation of CCUS initiatives in the region.
Regulatory Frameworks and Compliance
An extensive exploration of regulatory frameworks will be conducted to understand the legal landscape surrounding CCUS projects. Discussion on compliance requirements, permitting processes, and regulatory standards will be emphasized to ensure that CCUS initiatives adhere to legal guidelines and environmental regulations effectively.

Abstracts should include sufficient details for the committee to judge the quality of the submitted work. Abstracts should be a minimum of 1 page, text plus 1 figure (optional), with a maximum of 2 pages. Abstracts should be on 8.5×11 inch paper size, have text in Roman font, and include both text and figures. Title should be one or two-line, at the top of the page, in bold font, and size 12 point. Authors should be listed in Roman italic font, size 10 point, and located just below the title. All text must stay 1 inch clear of the margins of the page. Submissions should be in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.
